Mechanism of Microbial Detoxification of Heavy Metals: A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Heavy metal contamination from anthropogenic activities has an adverse effect on the environment due to its cytotoxicity, carcinogenicity and mutagenicity. Environment harbours microorganisms, some of which have been found modify physico-chemical conditions their surrounding through certain processes such as detoxification, homeostasis, precipitation, redox transformations etc. Investigations in past shown that short term contact with metals bacteria causes selection resistant within weeks, while a prolonged exposure showed selected strains able thrive better. Hence biotic methods could assist removal heavy based biosorption or bioaccumulation by are cost-effective environmental friendly long run. Microbial remediation is influenced factors also site characteristics. The aim this paper highlight review mechanisms microbial techniques biostimulation, bioaugmentation

Metallothionein biosynthesis as a detoxification mechanism of heavy metals (Hg,Cd,Pb,Cu,Zn) in green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas)

In this study, heavy metals (Hg,Cd,Pb,Cu,Zn) and metallothionein (MT) biosynthesis were measured in blood of green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) nesting on the northern coast of the Sea of Oman. Heavy metals concentrations in the sea water, the sediments, the blood samples ranged between 0.02-8.43 μg/l, 0.06-10.32 μg/l, and 0.16-36.78μg/g (ww), respectively. The highest concentration...

A Ferritin from Dendrorhynchus zhejiangensis with Heavy Metals Detoxification Activity

Ferritin, an iron homeostasis protein, has important functions in transition and storage of toxic metal ions. In this study, the full-length cDNA of ferritin was isolated from Dendrorhynchus zhejiangensis by cDNA library and RACE approaches. The higher similarity and conserved motifs for ferritin were also identified in worm counterparts, indicating that it belonged to a new member of ferritin ...

Phytoremediation of Heavy Metals- A Review

An excess level of heavy metals are exposed into environment by industrial waste and fertilizers causes serious concern in nature as they are nonbiodegradable and accumulate at high levels. Heavy metals such as Pb, Zn, Cd, As etc. are one of the most toxic pollutants which show hazardous effects on all living livings. The prevailing purification technologies used for removal of contaminants fro...
